Cater for your printer

Printable on FDM and resin printers

Step1
Cutting Guide

Step 1

So firstly, we load the stl file into the program, the screenshot below is what we start with, ignore the box that’s for their printers but it helps you centre everything.

So, we select the object and click the cut option to bring up the big red circle which shows where the cut will be Initially the circle appears half way along the selected object, but I have moved to to the left, you can then se the location in the box of info, for this it reads -375.

Step2
Cutting Guide

Step 2

So, for me I cut at 200mm intervals so set the reading to –175 (type in the box) and the circle will move 200mm along the object.

Step3
Cutting Guide

Step 3

Then simple click cut, and it will do so, the model will split apart (you can click to have it stay in place and a line appears where the cut is

Step4
Cutting Guide

Step 4

You then click on the part of the design you want to cut next, the circle will appear half way along again, and again move the circle to the left edge

Step5
Cutting Guide

Step 5

Click the cut box and the info box will open this now reads –98, so we move it to +102 and click cut again, so this is simply how to cut the model, you keep going until you have the segments all at 200 (or whatever you bed setting allows)

Step6
Cutting Guide

Step 6

Now its save time, the program saves whats on the screen so you have a couple of choices the first being to move the pieces all together for a mass print, using the move option

Step7
Cutting Guide

Step 7

If you are like me you don’t like trusting prints like that and want to do each piece individually, so for this there is a simple (but boring) process to go through. Firstly, click select al from the edit menu, the piece will highlight

Step8
Cutting Guide

Step 8

But you only want to save one piece so holding down the control key click one piece and it will deselect it (it will unhighlighted), I have clicked the left piece.

Step9
Cutting Guide

Step 9

Next from the edit menu click delete the other three pieces will disappear

Step10
Cutting Guide

Step 10

Now from the file menu choose to save as and make sure you click the bottom stl choice (after naming the file)

Step11
Cutting Guide

Step 11

So that piece is now saved, the next thing to do is from the edit menu select the undo this will make the deleted pieces re appear.

So now we select and delete the saved piece leaving us with the three unsaved pieces, we click the select al again and deselect the one we want to save and follow the process above until they are all saved. It’s not complicated but to be brutal it is a boring process, but once done you are set to print and keep the files safe and you won’t need to do it again.

  • WoW Buildings, the name says it all! Quality STL files from WW2 thru post apocalypse to Sci-Fi. I have found all of the STL’s developed by WoW Buildings to be of the highest quality and detail. We all know it won’t always be perfect so the post-sale service is also first class. Most problems are resolved no questions asked and promptly. WoW Buildings is one of my go to STL suppliers and definitely one of the better STL design and supply companies.
